Is Your Church Using Social Media?
Your current and potential congregants are. Studies show millennials are strongly influenced by what their peers post on social media, and the largest growing demographic is users over age 50. Mars Hill Church gains 6,000 new followers per week. Previously sparsely attended Catholic churches in Buffalo, New York have welcomed “mass mobs” into the pews. Weekly twitter conversations surrounding social media and the church have included direct chats with Bishops of multiple denominations. Delving into the world of social media can be pretty daunting – I get it. Hashtags and mentions and bitlys, oh my! But social media is cheap, efficient, and effective – what better way is there to broadcast your church’s mission, message, and events to the entire world? So, after a lot of reflection and conversation (minus one burning bush, plus one burning laptop), I give you these 10 tips for churches on social media: “10 Commandments for Churches on Social Media”.
